EBS General Purpose (SSD) is a great fit for small and medium workloads like Root disk EC2 volumes, small and medium database workloads and frequently logs accessing workloads.In addition, gp2 volumes offer higher performance than Magnetic volumes, with a baseline of 3 IOPS (input/output operations per second) per gigabyte and the ability to burst to 3,000 IOPS for short periods of time. If your workload requires higher performance, an old version Volume Type may not be able to meet your needs.
