Life at Orca Security revolves around the Pod – the people who have joined Orca’s mission to make the cloud a safer place for all. The ‘Pod Spotlight’ is a Q&A series dedicated to showcasing all of the amazing talent at Orca Security. With the start of Pride Month, we want to honor LGBTQ+ members of the Pod for their incredible contributions to the organization.
Today we’re spotlighting Shaked Elimelech, Cloud Security Developer working from the Tel Aviv, Israel office.
Why did you choose to work at Orca Security, and when did you join?
After I graduated, I was looking for a junior role in cybersecurity, and cloud security in particular. At the time, due to COVID-19 affecting the job market, entry-level roles were scarce. Against all odds, I found a junior role at Orca, met the requirements, and at the end of 2021 I joined the Applied Threat Research team as a Cloud Security Developer.
What advice do you have for people getting started in your field?
I would recommend they be curious and enthusiastic with every task. Explore new ideas and go above and beyond what’s expected of you, including keeping yourself up-to-date with the newest advancements, technologies and trends. Doing all of that will expand your horizon and maximize your ability to bring the best version of yourself.
How has working at Orca Security challenged you to grow?
Working at Orca challenged me to expand my problem-solving abilities and think creatively in order to overcome obstacles and meet deadlines. Additionally, the collaborative nature of Orca’s work environment has pushed me to develop strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling me to work well with diverse teams.
What’s the best thing about working within a team?
The best thing about working within a team is the opportunity to leverage diverse perspectives and expertise in order to foster creativity and innovation. Additionally, teamwork promotes a sense of camaraderie, support, and shared accomplishments, which enhances motivation and job satisfaction.
How has Orca supported you as a member of the LGBTQ+ community?
Although there’s only one Pride month per year, at Orca I feel that every month is Pride month. Our company stands for providing an environment where individuals feel safe, respected, comfortable, supportive, and free from discrimination. Everyone at Orca can fully embrace their identity, and this is just one of many reasons why this is a great place to be.
