Life at Orca Security revolves around the Pod – the people who have joined Orca’s mission to make the cloud a safer place for all. The ‘Pod Spotlight’ is a Q&A series dedicated to showcasing all of the amazing talent at Orca Security.
Today we’re spotlighting Tohar Braun, Security Research Tech Lead working from the Tel Aviv, Israel office.
Why did you choose to work at Orca Security, and when did you join?
I joined Orca almost 3 years ago, when we were still just a small company with less than 30 people. I was familiar with many of them from my previous job at CheckPoint, and that gave a lot of confidence that this team knew what they were doing, and that we were going to achieve great things together.
What advice do you have for people getting started in your field?
Be passionate about learning, and don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. If you want to be a programmer, taking things apart teaches you how to build them the right way. And, if you want to be a hacker, building things the wrong way teaches you how to take them apart more easily.
How has working at Orca Security challenged you to grow?
Working in security is generally never boring – there’s always something new to learn and some new adversary challenging you in new ways. Working at Orca, this is doubly true because we’re working in multiple different spaces with completely different ecosystems. So, for every new thing you learn, there’s an opportunity to learn four more things in the other ecosystems. Personally, having been at Orca since we were a much smaller company, I feel challenged to grow along with it, taking on broader areas of responsibility and being part of large-scale projects from conception to delivery.

What’s the best thing about working within a team?
My team is composed of very talented, multi-disciplinary people, each with their own areas of expertise. Being able to work together, learn from each other and complement each other’s abilities are the best aspects of being on this team.
